Toyota GR Supra A90 Final Edition: A Fitting Farewell
Toyota is bidding farewell to the current generation GR Supra with a bang – the limited-edition A90 Final Edition. Only 300 of these ultimate Supras will be available for the Japanese and European markets, each boasting significant performance and aesthetic upgrades.
Unleashing the Beast: Performance Enhancements
Under the hood, the Final Edition packs a seriously boosted punch. The BMW-sourced 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine now generates a potent 429 hp (320 kW / 435 PS) and 570 Nm (420 lb-ft) of torque – a significant 94 hp and 70 Nm increase over the standard model. This power surge is achieved through a revised air intake, a low-back-pressure catalyst, optimized engine controls, and a baffle plate on the engine oil pan for improved track performance. An Akrapovic titanium muffler adds the perfect soundtrack to this enhanced performance.
Power is exclusively channeled to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. This potent combination is further enhanced by a sharper chassis setup inspired by the GR Supra GT4 racecar. Key features include KW adjustable dampening suspension, strengthened stabilizers and suspension components, and an increased wheel camber angle. Lightweight 19-inch (front) and 20-inch (rear) wheels wrapped in sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires provide exceptional grip. Powerful Brembo brakes with high-friction pads, drilled floating discs, and stainless steel mesh brake hoses ensure confident stopping power.
A Swan Song of Style: Design and Aesthetics
The Final Edition’s visual enhancements are equally impressive. While it doesn't adopt the rumored GRMN moniker, it certainly lives up to the “final edition” title. A striking carbon fiber swan neck rear spoiler dominates the rear, complemented by a vented hood, a revised splitter with canards, and aggressive dual tailpipes with an “afterburner” effect.
Inside, the cabin is a masterpiece of motorsport-inspired luxury. Recaro Podium CF carbon fiber bucket seats upholstered in Alcantara provide exceptional support. A red driver’s seat, contrasting with the black Alcantara and carbon fiber accents throughout the rest of the cabin, creates a truly special atmosphere.
Standard GR Supra Upgrades: Lightweight Evo/Track Edition
Beyond the Final Edition, Toyota also offers a refined version of the standard GR Supra for its final year. Known as the "Lightweight Evo" in Europe and "Track Edition" in Australia, this model benefits from several improvements. These include revised electronically controlled shock absorbers, strengthened suspension bushings, mounts, stabilizers, and underfloor bracing for enhanced rigidity and handling. A new active differential control improves traction and reduces understeer. Further refinements include optimized electric power steering, an increased wheel camber angle, and larger 18-inch Brembo front brake discs. The 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine remains, producing 382 hp (285 kW / 387 PS) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque, with both manual and automatic transmission options available.
Aesthetic upgrades for this model include a carbon fiber ducktail spoiler and revised front fender vents for improved aerodynamics, along with 19-inch matte black forged aluminum wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires and an Alcantara interior with red stitching.
Availability (Europe):
European orders for the GR Supra Lightweight Evo and the GR Supra A90 Final Edition open in January 2025, with deliveries commencing in spring. The availability of the updated models in other markets will follow sequentially.
While the US market saw the discontinuation of the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the 2025 model year, the potential for further updates for the US-spec GR Supra remains uncertain. The 300 units of the A90 Final Edition are exclusively reserved for Europe and Japan.
Toyota has confirmed that while production of the A90 GR Supra concludes, its legacy will continue through various motorsport activities, and a new generation is already in development.
